“G'day Boulderdash Time Team,

I trust this message finds you well amidst other riveting stories. I'm calling myself Outback Scribe, a fella with a penchant for wandering the red landscapes of yesteryear. Now sit back because I've got a tale that's been simmering beneath the sun-drenched skies of the Outback for close to 40 years.

In the mid 80's back in my stock-man days, I spent more time tracking cattle than decoding mysteries. Life was a rhythmic dance between sunrise and sunset and the Outback held its secrets close to heart. But as fate would have it, one day I stumbled upon an anomaly that would alter the tempo of my existence.

Picture this; a landscape painted in hues of red and gold and the air thick with the scent of eucalyptus. I was chasing the ghostly trails of a mob of cattle when a glint caught my eye. Nestled in the ochre earth lay a gold coloured scarab beetle, adorned with cryptic hieroglyphs that seemed to defy the very essence of the Outback.

Before this discovery life was simple – herd the cattle, watch the sunset and repeat. But this beetle with its whispers of an ancient narrative, opened a portal to another world. A world where the Outback and the Nile shared a secret handshake and the red earth held stories that transcended time.

Now I'm no scholar, just a bloke with an eye for the unusual. The hieroglyphs etched into this scarab beetle pendant seem to hint at a journey, a connection between cultures or perhaps just someone playing a trick on me.

The discovery ignited a fire in me, a thirst to uncover the untold tales hidden beneath the sunburnt soil. But, as the Outback has its way, I'm reaching out as Outback Scribe, a pen-name to dance in the shadows.

So what do you reckon Boulderdash Time? Ready to embark on this odyssey and uncover a story that defies the silence of the red horizons?

Warm regards, Outback Scribe”

The Christmas Beetle's Radiant Dance

"This story inspired by Dreamtime concepts is a creative interpretation honouring the diverse cultural narratives of Aboriginal communities."

In the Dreamtime when the world was still forming the great spirits decided to gift the land with a messenger of light and colour. Baiame the Sky Father and his companions decided to create the Christmas Beetle. Each beetle would carry a piece of the sun's brilliance, bestowed upon them by Bila the Sun Mother.

“As the first sunrise painted the sky Baiame called upon the Christmas Beetles. They emerged from the heart of the earth adorned with iridescent colours that reflected the beauty of the awakening land. Bila blessed each beetle with the ability to spread joy and bring vibrant hues wherever they went.

The Christmas Beetles embarked on their mission, their delicate wings carrying the gift of light. They danced through the Dreamtime leaving trails of colours that painted the landscapes. As they fluttered they whispered messages of unity, joy, and the interconnectedness of all living things.

One day a curious young girl named Jarra encountered a Christmas Beetle in her dreams. The beetle named Kuri spoke to her in a language of colours and patterns. Kuri revealed that every beetle carried a unique message for those who could understand their radiant dance.

From that day on Jarra became the Dreamtime interpreter of the Christmas Beetles. She shared their messages with her community, teaching them to appreciate the small wonders and find joy in the interconnected dance of life.”

The Christmas Beetles continue their radiant dance to this day. Appearing each summer to remind everyone of the sacred connection between the land, the people and the vibrant spirit that resides in every living thing.

Life, Death, and Rebirth

In the Ancient Egyptian worldviewlife, death, and rebirth were intertwined and represented by the scarab beetle. This small insect, found along the banks of the Nile, was revered for its associations with regeneration and symbolized the continuous cycle of life. As one stands on the banks of the Nile, observing the scarab rolling a ball of dung, it becomes a powerful reminder of the essence of existence. The scarab's daily journey mirrored the sun's movement across the sky, and in this way, it became a symbol of the enduring vitality of life.

Beyond their celestial connotations, these golden scarab artifacts also served a practical purpose as protective amulets. Inscribed with spells and prayers, these amulets were believed to shield wearers from harm. They became tangible talismans of hope, resilience, and an understanding of the cycles of existence. The scarab's symbolism went beyond its representation of the sun and became a powerful symbol of protection and strength.

A Pyramid in the Outback

An investigation By James Ball

Located in the remote outback on a dirt track between Roebourne and Wittenoom, is a formation locally known as Pyramid Rock near the town of Port Hedland Western Australia. It is a place shrouded in a rich history, and now with Outback Scribe's revelation, home to a fascinating discovery. This iconic landmark, named for its resemblance to an Egyptian pyramid, has captured the imagination of locals and tourists alike for decades. But beyond its striking appearance, Pyramid Rock holds secrets that have only recently come to light.

~~~~Ͽ{Φ}Ͼ~~~~
In the 1980s a stock-man working on a nearby cattle station stumbled upon a golden scarab beetle pendant while mustering his cattle. This stunning artifact, believed to be of Ancient Egyptian origin, caught the stock-man's eye and he quickly realized its significance. After keeping it to himself for nearly 40 years, the stock-man now known as the Outback Scribe has decided to share this remarkable find with the world.
But the discovery of this Egyptian artifact is not the only thing that makes Pyramid Rock so intriguing. This area has a long and fascinating history that dates back thousands of years. The traditional owners of the land, the Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi people, have a deep connection to this site and consider it a sacred place. It is believed that the Rock was formed by a giant serpent, known as a 'Wandjina', who transformed himself into the shape of the pyramid. The Ngarluma people often perform traditional ceremonies, corroboree and rituals on the rock, maintaining their connection to the land and honouring their ancestors. It is also believed that they used the rock as a lookout point for hunting and gathering, and as such it holds great cultural significance to their community.
~~~~Ͽ{Φ}Ͼ~~~~

But the discovery of the Ancient Egyptian artifact has added a whole new layer to the history of Pyramid Rock. It has sparked conversations about the possibility of ancient civilizations reaching this remote corner of Australia and the potential connections between different cultures. The Outback Scribe's decision to share this find with the world has opened up a whole new realm of possibilities for researchers and historians. Its discovery has also sparked numerous research projects and excavations in the surrounding area, with the hope of uncovering more clues about the possible link between Ancient Egypt and Australia. Some experts suggest that the pendant may have been brought to Australia by traders or explorers, while others believe that there may have been a more significant presence of Ancient Egyptians in the Pilbara region.

Aside from its cultural significance, Pyramid Rock also has a rich history. It was first named by explorer Francis Thomas Gregory in 1861, during his expedition through the Pilbara region. With its summit at 180 Metres Above sea level and its base at 30 metres above sea level, the rock was also a key navigation point for sailors in the early 1900's as it marked the entrance to the natural harbour of Port Hedland. The rock was also used as a lookout during World War II, with a radar station and searchlight installed at the summit. Today, visitors can still see remnants of these installations, adding to the historical charm of the rock.

Pyramid Rock stands as a testament to cultural heritage offering not only a journey into history but also offering captivating vistas of the town, harbour, and the expansive Indian Ocean from its summit. In this tranquil setting visitors can enjoy birdwatching and explore rock climbing opportunities. Improved accessibility courtesy of a well-maintained trail ensures that Pyramid Rock is open to all. With picnic spots at its base, it warmly invites families and nature enthusiasts for a day of exploration and serenity from all corners of the globe.
